Sustainability
It's more than thinking green.....
The Food and Drink Federation's definition of sustainability is, 'achieving a better quality of life for everyone, now and for future generations to come'. This entails making economic, environmental and social progress all at the same time.
That's why we say it's not just about being "green".
FoodEast thinks that sustainability has to include; the use of all resources including energy, soil, carbon and water, working conditions and wages, salaries and profits, skills/education and knowledge transfer, and our human capital, our people.
FoodEast will use these pages to keep you up to date with sustainability issues in the region, and nationally.
We will feature local companies that are working to make their businesses sustainable in our Sustainability Roll of Honour and keep you informed about national and global initiatives.
We will work with training providers and standards bodies to facilitate new training courses on sustainability in the food chain.
Watch these pages to see links to other sustainability initiatives, news of local companies' sustainability programmes, and the results of our work to help the region's food chain become more sustainable.
