Local man gets MBE
David Moar, who is business development manager at agricultural purchasing group Anglia Farmers, has been made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to cancer charities in Norfolk and North Suffolk. David Moar MBE founded The Big C cancer charity with fellow patient Clive Bamford in 1980 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer and then secondary lung cancer. “In those days I had to travel to London for treatment,” said 58 year-old Mr Moar. “So we set up the charity to make sure other people diagnosed with cancer could have the support they needed in Norfolk and Waveney.” Today, The Big C supports 7,000 people with cancer at its centre based at the Norfolk and Norwich NHS Trust. It is also heavily involved in cancer research. David said: “I was amazed when I heard I had been awarded an MBE. I still can’t believe it.”
