Fire at Cambs produce factory

Fourteen fire crews fought a blaze which broke out on Monday morning at Abbey Produce factory in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire.

Burning plastic gloves are thought to have caused a plume of smoke that reached 1,000ft into the sky.

Two members of factory staff, suffering from smoke inhalation, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Much of the warehouse has been destroyed but a spokesman at Abbey Produce told freshinfo that the blaze did not have any impact on potatoes or fresh produce.

Investigations will start next week at the earliest, when fire investigators and police will hold a meeting.
