Geo Adams to be taken
over
Spalding-based pork products firm George Adams and Sons is being taken
over by the world's largest meat exporter Danish Crown.
The Fulney Lane company, which was founded in Spalding in 1910 and
employs about 1,000 people, will retain its name as a division within Tulip
Ltd, the UK branch of Danish Crown.
Chief executive Mark Adams, grandson of founder George, will be given a
part-time role as an executive director in the Tulip group.
Asked whether the deal would affect jobs, Mr Adams said: "There will be
no changes except that the company will operate as a division within Tulip.
The identity of the company, which has a very strong name in the industry,
will be retained."
Mr Adams said he had turned down previous offers but felt that now was the
right time to move on.
He added: "I have been ill for a year and there is no other family
member wanting to carry on the business."
George Adams company secretary Tim Cooper-Jones said: "There are no
plans at this stage that will impact on employees.
"Tulip plans to develop and grow the business."
UK sales for Warwickshire-based Tulip Ltd will hit £1.2billion.
The takeover is expected to be completed next month.
Tulip Ltd president Carsten Jakobsen said: "This transaction will help
us to supply the UK consumer with a wider range of quality products."
