Sprouts on the march

Sprouts are more popular than ever with consumers, says the British Sprout Grower's Association (BSGA).

Association spokseman Brian Taylor of Syngenta Seeds said "For years, sales of sprouts as with many traditional vegetables have been on a downward spiral. To have evidence of not only a halt in this trend but an actual reversal is very encouraging."

"Yet it has not been achieved without hard work and commitment. The BSGA is made up of a small but dedicated membership which through what proved to be a very difficult season in terms of weather conditions complicating harvest over the key Christmas period, remained steadfast."

Interest in UK sprouts has grown since the first Chipping Camden British Sprout Festival was held last November, and plans are currently underway to build on that success.
